Halifax NP698 at East Moor airfield.

During the early hours of 19th March 1945 this 432 Squadron aircraft and others from the same squadron were flown on an operational flight to bomb target at Witten. The aircraft took off from East Moor at 00.31hrs and the crew released their bomb load over the target from 15,400 feet at 04.20hrs. At 07.43hrs the aircraft landed at East Moor without incident. At 07.50hrs the aircraft was taxying up the runway towards a dispersal point when they were informed by flying control to clear the runway quickly (probably as another aircraft was coming in to land). The pilot of Halifax NP698 turned the aircraft onto the grass beside the perimeter track but was unable to stop the aircraft and it ran into a hedge beside the perimeter track. A short time later Halifax PN229 was being taxied around the airfield and collided with Halifax NP698. Minor damage to both aircraft resulted.

Pilot - F/Sgt D W Jamer RCAF (R/190240).
