Halifax NP691 damaged by enemy aircraft, landed at East Moor airfield.

During the evening of 14th January 1945 the crew of this 432 Squadron aircraft were to fly an operational flight to bomb a target at Grevenbroich, this aircraft took off from East Moor at 15.30hrs. The crew released their bomb load at 19.38hrs from 18,500 feet on centre of target indicator flares. At 19.49hrs and while they were flying at 14,000 feet the Halifax was attacked by what was thought to have been an enemy fighter. The tail wheel tyre was shot away and several other bullets hit the aircraft; two holes were later found in the starboard wing, one hole was found behind the D.R. compass and a few others across the aircraft. The aircraft landed at East Moor at 21.43hrs. On face value this damage sounds like a minor Cat.A repairable incident but this was not the case however and it was written off with Cat.E damage being the assessment.
