Lancaster NN742 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.

On th enight of 9th / 10th April 1945 this 150 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Kiel naval base and took off from Hemswell at 19.15hrs. 150 Squadron crews were over the target area at around 22.30hrs. After releasing their bomb load this aircraft's port outer engine failed and was feathered. On the return flight over the North Sea the port inner engine also failed but could not be feathered. The port inner engine eventually caught fire but was extinguished using the Graviner system. The port outer engine had later to be unfeathered because of the drag it was causing and the crew diverted to land at Carnaby where a safe landing was made at 01.30hrs.
