Halifax NA671 at Burn airfield.
During the afternoon of 4th March 1945 this 578 Squadron aircraft was test flown prior to a planned operational sortie to bomb Gelsenkirchen. On landing at Burn at 15.15hrs the tail wheel assembly broke without warning and the aircraft came to rest slightly damaged. A modification to the tail wheel assembly had not yet been made to this aircraft. The aircraft had received a flak hole in the astrodome eighteen hours earlier on Ops.
