Halifax NA617 at Marston Moor airfield.
During the evening of 2nd May 1945 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a night basic circuits and landings training exercise using Marston Moor airfield. At 23.55hrs on one of the landings the aircraft appeared to land normally but then the tail wheel assembly collapsed. A tail wheel assembly modification had not yet been carried out on this aircraft. This was the final Halifax tail wheel collapse in the Second World War.
