Halifax NA530 at Carnaby airfield.

On 22nd February 1945 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft took off from Rufforth airfield at 09.29hrs for a practice bombing exercise. The crew carried out the bombing exercise and returned to the circuit of Rufforth airfield but the port undercarriage leg would not lock down properly. They were ordered to fly to Carnaby and land there. At Carnaby at 13.04hrs they landed with the starboard undercarriage leg lowered but with the port leg still up. The end result was that the aircraft was badly damaged by the time it came to a halt. The pilot was posted to 347 Squadron on 13th March 1945.
