Halifax MZ928 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.

On the night of 14th / 15th February 1945 this 158 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Chemnitz. The aircraft took off from Lissett at 17.09hrs and released their bomb load over the target area at 21.05hrs from 19,000 feet. At 22.15hrs the port inner engine caught fire and stopped. The fire was extinguished but the propeller would not feather and it eventually broke off. Despite the damage the crew were able to fly the aircraft back to Yorkshire and land at Carnaby without further incident at 01.54hrs.
