Halifax MZ897 at Snaith airfield.
On 11th March 1945 this 51 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Essen and took off from Snaith airfield at 11.41hrs. The crew released their bomb load over the target markers from 18,000 feet at 15.06hrs but owing to cloud cover could not see where their bomb load landed. On landing or while taxying to dispersal at Snaith airfield at 17.20hrs the tail wheel assembly collapsed and the aircraft came to rest slightly damaged. A modification to the tail wheel assembly mountings was not yet incorporated into this aircraft.
