Halifax MZ561 at Rufforth airfield.
At 20.00hrs on 4th March 1945 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was stationary at Rufforth airfield awaiting the order to begin to take off when the aircraft was struck by Halifax NR278 while that aircraft but on the wrong runway. MZ561 caught fire and while all the crew were rescued four of the crew received burn injuries. The pilot of NR278 was held fully to blame.
