Halifax MZ534 at Rufforth airfield.
On 8th March 1945 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a night training flight, almost certainly a night circuits and landings exercise. At 21.53hrs, just nine minutes after taking off, a down wind landing was made at Rufforth but unfortunately the starboard inner engine then caught fire. The Graviner extinguisher system put the fire out but damage had already occurred. This pilot and his crew were later posted to 347 Squadron.
