Halifax MZ403 damaged in the air, landed at Lissett airfield.

On the night of 2nd / 3rd February 1945 this 158 Squadron aircraft was to have been flown on an operational flight to bomb Wanna-Eickel. Unfortunately the pages within the 158 Squadron orb are missing on the National Archives website download function so obtaining accurate take-off information is not possible. Other 158 Squadron aircraft that night set out between 20.30hrs and 21.00hrs. Outbound and around an hour after taking off the port outer engine caught fire. The crew abandoned the operational sortie and made for home, landing at Lissett before midnight.

Pilot - F/O Herbert Roy Harrison Meredith RCAF (J/91021).

I have also located a No.4 Group damage return in the Australian National Archives that states that on 8th February 1945 this 158 Squadron aircraft suffered the tail oleo shearing off on landing with F/O Meredith being the unfortunate pilot. Minor Cat.Ac damage resulted. This also appears to involve Halifax MZ403 and I will detail that on a seperate webpage.
