Lancaster ME539 at Leeming airfield.
At 14.05hrs on 30th April 1945 this 429 Squadron aircraft was being taxied around Leeming airfield when the pilot taxied onto a section of the perimeter track that was under repair contractors. In turning the aircraft on this area the pilot did not allow for the tail of the aircraft clearing the obstructed area and the tail struck some form of water pump. The contractors had been asked to moved them onto the grass but did not co-operate with the request. The pilot was new to 429 Squadron, having arrived nine days earlier.
