Halifax LW639 at Marston Moor airfield.
During the evening of 26th March 1945 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was being used to fly on a night circuits and landing training flight at Marston Moor airfield. At 23.35hrs this aircraft was stopped on the perimeter, the trainee crew in the aircraft got out and another were getting in when the aircraft's brakes failed and the aircraft moved forward. Unfortunately Halifax LW474 was some sixty yards directly in front of this aircraft and Halifax LW639 could not be stopped before the two aircraft collided.
