Halifax LW587 damaged in the air, landed at East Moor airfield.

On 18th April 1945 this aircraft was being flown over North Yorkshire on a delivery flight with the ATA when the port inner propeller feathered on its own accord. The No.6 Ferry Pilot Pool pilot made a successful landing without further damage at East Moor airfield at 14.00hrs and the cause of the fault was put down to a failure of a baring in the engine.

Alec Spiller was flying as an civilian pilot in the 1930s. He served in the ATA between 10th April 1941 and 31st October 1945. Post-ww2 he continuued to pilot aircraft until 1980, delivering aircraft and competing in air racing. His logbook and other papers sold at auction in 2012.
