Halifax LW474 at Marston Moor airfield.

During the evening of 26th March 1945 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was used to fly a night circuits and landings training exercise. At 23.35hrs the aircraft was stationary on the perimeter track and the trainee crew who had flown it were getting out of the aircraft so another crew could get inside. Some sixty yards behind Halifax LW474 another aircraft, Halifax LW639, was stopped and the crew was also changing when the brakes failed on LW639. It ran forward and could not be stopped before it collided with Halifax LW474. Both aircraft received minor damage.
