Halifax LW470 near Tockwith.
In the early hours of 28th April 1945 the crew of this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft were tasked with flying a basic night circuits and landings exercise. They took off from Marston Moor airfield at 02.28hrs. At 02.43hrs the aircraft attempted to land at Marston Moor but the aircraft was flying too fast, it floated on landing and overshot, running off the airfield and coming to rest on a road (near a vicarage). The photograph shown above is probably Halifax LW470 in situ on the road.
Pilot - F/O John Alexander Henderson RAFVR (157121).
