Halifax LV823 at Rufforth airfield.
On 10th March 1945 this 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a basic circuits and landings training flight at Rufforth airfield. At 12.30hrs the aircraft made a normal landing and without warning the tail wheel collapsed. A modification to the tail wheel assembly mountings had not yet been made on this aircraft to correct a known weakness.
