Halifax LL553 at Elvington airfield.
During the afternoon of 26th February 1945 this aircraft was being flown back to Elvington airfield but from where is not clear. The aircraft had only served with 346 Squadron from new and had also not been used operationally in the days previous to this date that saw it land at another airfield. The ferry flight lasted an hour. On making a heavy landing at Elvington at 15.00hrs the tail oleo shock absorber broke and then collapsed.
