Halifax LL548 damaged by flak, landed at Carnaby airfield.
On the night of 2nd / 3rd February 1945 the crew of this 578 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomn Wanna-Eickel and took off from Burn airfield at 20.28hrs. The crew could not visually see the target but released their bomb load over the glow through thick could and by a GEE fix from 19,500 feet at 23.28hrs. While over the target area the aircraft was slightly damaged by flak in the nose of the aircraft. Because of having no break pressure the crew landed at 02.29hrs where there was a much longer runway to make a safe landing.
