Lancaster JB646 damaged at Lindholme airfield, crash landed at Carnaby airfield.
During a night circuits and landings exercise being flown in the evening of on 22nd January 1945 the pilot of this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was on the approach to land at Lindholme when he mistook the funnel lighting for the runway lighting and at 22.50hrs the aircraft undershot. The starboard main wheel hit a wall and broke off but the pilot was able to apply power and climb away. Realising there would be a problem with making a landing the aircraft was diverted to make a belly landing at Carnaby. The aircraft received further damage at Carnaby but the crew escaped injury.
