Lancaster EE139 at Lindholme airfield.

At 21.55hrs on 18th February 1945 this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft overshot on landing at Lindholme airfield. The starboard undercarriage collapsed. Lancaster EE139 was one of the true veterans of Bomber Command, while serving with 100 Squadron and 550 Squadron it flew over 120 operational flights and carried the nose art of "Phantom of the Ruhr", it may well have still carried the nose art at the time of this incident in February 1945.

Pilot - F/O Nicholas Agnew Ansdell RAFVR (150291).

Six crew - Names unknown.

The pilot was soon posted to 12 Squadron. On 4th March 1945 he and his crew were killed when Lancaster PB476 became a victim to the Luftwaffe intruder raid that claimed many bombers in both Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. He is buried at Anford Cemetery, Lincolnshire.
