Spitfire BM207 at Catfoss airfield.

On 3rd February 1945 this Central Gunnery School aircraft was in the process of taking off from Catfoss airfield when the pilot felt that he did not have full control if the elevators. The pilot tried to abandon the take off run but was travelling too fast to stop before running into the boundary hedge. The aircraft received damage that initially assessed as repairable Cat.B but was then re-assessed after collection and arrival at a repair depot and deemed beyond economical repair. The aircraft was fitted with different elevators than he was used to.
