Spitfire AR499 near Burstwick.
On 12th January 1945 this Central Gunnery School aircraft suffered a glycol leak and then engine failure on a fighter affiliation flight over East Yorkshire. The pilot made a forced landing around two miles south-east of Burstwick but over-ran the selected field and crashed into a dyke. After assessment the damage to the aircraft was deemed too bad to warrant a repair. This incident is not listed in the C.G.S. orb.
The aircraft had been involved in an incident three days earlier at Catfoss when a female member of airfield staff was struck by the aircraft.
