Spitfire AB198 near Cattal.

On 2nd May 1945 this aircraft had just left the runway at Marston Moor airfield when the engine of this aircraft cut out while flying at just 200 feet, the pilot force-landed near the village of Cattal at 11.11hrs and sustained slight injuries. The aircraft was on charge with 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit, but was probably there for use as a fighter affilitaion aircraft. Following this accident it was not repaired.

In the coming years Jack Moss remained in the RAF and was appointed to a commission as P/O (Branch Officer) on 8th July 1954 (with seniority of 7th July 1954). He was promoted to F/O on an unknown date and to F/Lt on 7th July 1959. He retired at his own request on 31st August 1968.
