Wellington X3793 at Catfoss airfield.
On 26th March 1944 the Central Gunnery School orb states that Wellington X3793 collided with Spitfire P8444 on the ground at Catfoss airfield. The C.G.S. orb then states that "pilot of Wellington landed aircraft with badly damaged tail ailerons. Recommended for commendatory endorsement". Whether X3793 and the damaged aileron aircraft were one aircraft or two aircraft is not actually recorded in the orb. The AM Form 78 for Wellington X3793 states that it received Cat.Ac/FA damage on 26th March 1944 so is likely to have been the aircraft involved.
Pilot (of damaged aileron aircraft) - F/O John Howard Elshaw DFM RAF (49134).
John Elshaw was later awarded the Air Force Cross for his service with the Central Gunnery School.
