Halifax W1014 at Lindholme airfield.

On 10th January 1944 this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a night training flight that appears to have been a dual instruction circuits and landings exercise. After a ten minute flight, on landing at Lindholme at 20.41hrs the aircraft swung off the runway, the instructor realised that the tail wheel assembly was missing. Earlier heavy landings made doing similar exercises has weakened an already poor and weak part of the aircraft and it broke on landing.

Pilot (instructor) - F/Lt Florent Victor Paul Van Rolleghem DFC RAFVR (123068).

Pilot (pupil) - F/Sgt A W Chase RCAF (R/127074).
