Halifax W1009 damaged in the air, landed at Lindholme airfield.
During the morning on 24th March 1944 this 1656 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was used for a fighter affiliation exercise. During the exercise the pilot lost control in cloud while taking violent evasive action, in regaining control the aircraft was overstressed and while a safe landing was made at 09.00hrs the aircraft had sustained some fairly serious damage. The damage was later inspected and it was deemed beyond economic repair.
