On 24th July 1944 this Central Gunnery School Beaufighter was fifty minutes into a training flight when the starboard engine failed. While flying at 200 feet above the ground the aircraft stalled while the pilot was attempting to force land the aircraft around half a mile south of Sigglesthorne. The aircraft crashed at Great Hatfield and he was killed. The pilot is listed in the C.G.S. orb as being a 51 O.T.U. pilot at the C.G.S. for training.
