Unidentified Spitfire at Skipton on Swale airfield.

During January 1944 an unidentified Spitfire normally based at Dyce airfield landed on Runway 27 at Skipton on Swale, on touching down it swung off the runway and before it could be stopped it tipped up on to it's nose. The incident is mentioned in the Skipton on Swale station records but does not list a date or the unit involved. 8 (C)O.T.U. were based at Dyce at the time and operated Spitfires so I assume the pilot was one of theirs undertaking a training flight and became lost.

Pilot - F/Sgt Jack.
