Halifax R9494 at Marston Moor airfield.

On 22nd June 1944 this 1652 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a circuits and landings training exercise at Marston Moor airfield. During at landing at Marston Moor at 10.30hrs the aircraft began to swing to port. In trying to correct the swing the pilot braked too hard and before the aircraft was stopped the starboard undercarriage collapsed. An engine on each wing sustained damage which maybe suggests damage to the port undercarriage also. The damage saw the rather old aircraft written off after inspection.

Pilot - F/Sgt John Philip Prouting RAAF (428786).

F/O Forrest Earsham Hay Lightbody RAFVR (153059) is also named on the AM Form 1180 but was then crossed out.
