Hudson MkI P5149 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.
At 11.00hrs on 21st December 1944 the engines of this aircraft were being at Sherburn in Elmet airfield prior to a flight by a No.7 Ferry Pilot Pool pilot of the ATA when the starboard engine caught fire. The fire was promptly put out but damaged to the engine and possibly the wing resulted. Exactly why the ATA had this aircraft is not yet clear. The aircraft's AM Form 78 lists it being with the Station Flight at Benson on 8th November 1944 but whether it was then headed toward MU storage when the ATA damaged it is unclear. The aircraft initially received a Cat.Ac/FA damage assessment a week after this incident on 28th December 1944 but this was later upgraded to Re-Cat.E and it was struck off charge on 22nd February 1945.
Pilot - First Officer Mary Berta de Bunsen ATA (W.44).
