Albermarle P1402 near Sherburn in Elmet airfield.

The details of why this aircraft was in the air is not yet known but an air cadet was on board so it was probably a flight to give him air experience. On 15th June 1944 the A.F.E.E. aircraft suffered engine failure in flight, the pilot force landed the aircraft with the wheels up in a field around 300 yards north of the northern boundary of Sherburn in Elmet airfield. It was found that the engines had stopped because the fuel cocks supplying fuel had been set incorrectly.
