Halifax NR183 damaged in the air, landed at Driffield airfield.

On 2nd November 1944 this 466 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Dusseldorf and took off from Driffield airfield at 16.18hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area at 19.34hrs from 17,000 feet but while over the target area the aircraft was struck from above by falling incendiary bombs dropped by a higher flying aircraft. Unfortunately the pilot and wireless operator sustained minor injuries as a result. The port inner engine nacelle was also damaged and a fire broke out in the engine so it had to be shut down and the propeller feathered. Despite the damage the crew made a safe landing back at Driffield at 22.18hrs.
