Halifax NR113 damaged in the air, landed at Breighton airfield.
During the early evening of 9th November 1944 this 78 Squadron aircraft was flown on a practice bombing exercise combined with a fighter affiliation exercise. While flying at 10,000 feet the crew believed there was a problem with the port outer engine so shut it down, feathered the propeller and decided to return to base. The pilot made a first approach to land at Breighton but was too high off the ground so correctly flew an overshoot but then struck trees beyond the runway. He managed to remain in control and the aircraft then flew a circuit of the airfield, landing normally at Breighton at 19.25hrs. Minor repairable damage had resulted from the earlier collision with the trees
Pilot - F/O Russel Berryman Loucks RCAF (J/29103).
