Halifax NP952 at Leeming airfield.

During the evening of 21st October 1944 this 429 Squadron aircraft was used to fly an operational flight to bomb Hannover and took off from Leeming airfield at 16.33hrs. The crew were recalled to base at 18.00hrs and they jettisoned the bombload into the North Sea at 19.06hrs to reduce the overall weight for landing. On landing at Leeming at 20.08hrs the aircraft bounced, ballooned back into the air some ten to twelve feet and then dropped to the ground causing the starboard undercarriage leg to be then torn off. The aircraft came to rest with the starboard fin, rudder and fuselage damaged.
