Halifax NP802 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
During the afternoon of 24th December 1944 this 432 Squadron aircraft was used to fly an operational flight to bomb Lohausen airfield at Dusseldorf and took off from East Moor airfield at 11.46hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area markers from 15,000 feet at 14.52hrs. On their return to England the crew appear to have failed to receive the order for all 408 Squadron crews to divert and land at Coltishall owing to poor weather in Yorkshire. They returned to the skies over Yorkshire but must have then received a diversion order and managed to land at Linton on Ouse airfield at 17.15hrs. Unfortunately Halifxa NP802 swung off the runway and could not be brought to a halt before it ran towards the perimeter track. 408 Squadron Halifax NP714 was parked and empty on a dispersal point in its course and a collision ensued. Minor damage to both aircraft resulted.
