Anson NL238 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.
At 13.30hrs on 18th November 1944 Anson NL238 was in the care of No.6 Ferry Pilot Pool and was being taxied from a dispersal point at Sherburn in Elmet airfield with a member of ground crew acting to marshall the aircraft. While being moving around the airfield it had to pass between two parked aircraft including Hurricane Z2457. The pilot stopped the Anson and asked a member of ground crew to check the clearance. With this done the pilot was waved forward but there was only three feet clearance at each side. Because the ground was muddy it then skidded and the port wing of the Anson struck the tail of the Hurricane. The member of ground crew was held responsible for the incident.
Pilot - Third Officer Mrs Kathleen Marjorie Lester ATA (W.118).
