Lancaster NG241 at Leconfield airfield.
On the night of 28th / 29th October 1944 this 61 Squadron aircraft carried out an operational flight to bomb submarine pens at Bergen. It took off from Skellingthorpe at 22.28hrs but the crew coudl not locate the target due to thick cloud cover so jettisoned the bomb load. While the squadron records do not state it this and probably other 61 Squadron aircraft must have landed at Leconfield airfield. Lancaster NG241 landed at 05.24hrs. At 11.00hrs the aircraft was being taxied around Leconfield airfield by a towing party when the main wheels became bogged down in soft ground, the towing party appear to have released the main wheels but as it moved forward the tail wheel then sunk into a hole created by one of the main wheels and was slightly damaged. The towing party were carrying out unauthorised taxying of the aircraft at the time. The crew listed below were not in the aeroplane at the time though I feel require listing.
