Halifax NA566 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.
On 24th August 1944 this 158 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb shipping at Brest and took off from Lissett airfield at 10.00hrs. The crew released the bombs at 13.06hrs
from 15,000 feet but a minute prior to this the aircraft was struck and damaged by flak. Despite the damage the crew returned to Yorkshire but landed at Carnaby at 15.33hrs. This is probably the aircraft that
is mentioned in the Carnaby airfield record book as "shot up by enemy action, short of fuel, with undercarriage trouble and a burst tyre".
