Halifax NA531 at Full Sutton airfield.
On the night of 12th / 13th July 1944 Halifax MZ735 of 77 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Les Hauts Boissons. After landing at Full Sutton at 02.30hrs the crew of MZ735 did not wait for a ground crew marshall to guide them back to a dispersal, instead one of the crew appears to have jumped down and guided the pilot around the perimeter track with torch signals. The man on the ground attempted to wave the torch to warn the pilot that Halifax NA531 was parked and empty in a dispersal but the pilot took this signal as an instruction to turn, resulting in a collision.
No crew.
