Halifax NA526 damaged in the air, landed at Breighton airfield.

On the night of 15th / 16th September 1944 this 78 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Kiel. The aircraft took off from Breighton at 22.28hrs and they released their bomb load onto the target area from 18,500 feet at 01.15hrs. While over the target the aircraft was struck by falling incendiaries dropped from a higher flying aircraft. Damage to the main planes was caused but did not prevent the crew from making a normal landing at Breighton at 04.03hrs.
