Halifax NA171 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
During the afternoon of 7th December 1944 this 76 Squadron aircraft was to have been flown on a training flight. On take off at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield at 13.48hrs the pilot noticed that a civilian car being driven across the airfield and onto the runway ahead of the aircraft. He attempted to jump the aircraft over the car but the undercarriage struck the hood of the car killing the occupant. The civilian was making an unauthorised journey across the runway in use at the time of this accident. Unfortunately the name of the civilian is not yet known. How and why a civilian vehicle was allowed to be on a military airfield is also not known; maybe a civilian contractor?
