Halifax MZ877 damaged in the air, landed at Driffield airfield.
On the night of 16th / 17th August 1944 this 466 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Kiel and took off from Driffield airfield at 21.35hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area from 18,000 feet at 00.11hrs and made for home. While over the North Sea and in poor visibility at 01.41hrs this aircraft flew at ninety degrees across the main returning bomber stream and a collision occurred with 420 Squadron Halifax LL589. Despite the damage a safe landing was made at base of Driffield at 02.40hrs.
