Halifax MZ850 damaged in the air, landed at Breighton airfield.
During the afternoon of 24th August 1944 this 78 Squadron aircraft was flown so the crew could carrying a training exercise to practice using the H2S system. While flying in cloud at 14,000 feet severe icing conditions occurred which caused the pilot to loose control. The aircraft descended in a steep dive down to 5,000 feet before control was regained but fairly serious stressing had occurred to the aircraft in regaining control. A safe landing was made at Breighton but an inspection saw a damage assessment of Cat.B damage recorded.
