Halifax MZ819 at Leeming airfield.

During the afternoon of 16th November 1944 this 427 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight. In flight a bolt in the the linkage to the throttle of the port outer engine broke so the crew could not change the throttle control for that engine. At 15.10hrs the crew landed at Leeming, it swung off the runway and struck a concrete gun emplacement which caused the port undercarriage to collapse. A fire broke out in the port outer engine as a result of the crash. Repairable damage resulted but the investigation suggested that the crew should have made a three engined landing, ie, shutting the fuel off to the port outer engine that would have stopped it.
