Halifax MZ743 damaged in the air, landed at Full Sutton airfield.

During the afternoon of 24th August 1944 the crew of this 77 Squadron aircraft were detailed to fly an operational flight to bomb shipping targets at Brest and they took off from Full Sutton airfield at 10.10hrs. The crew made five runs over the target area and on the third the aircraft was struck by a flak burst that caused damage and also wounded the wireless operator in the right forearm. Despite this the crew completed dropping the bomb load from 13,800 feet at 13.12hrs and made for home. They returned to Full Sutton and landed at 14.45hrs. Damage was found in the wing overload fuel tank, the wireless set, the fuselage and the hydraulic system.
