Halifax MZ735 at Full Sutton airfield.
On the night of 12th / 13th July 1944 this 77 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Les Hauts Boissons. The aircraft took off from Full Sutton at 22.40hrs and the crew released their load from 14,800 feet at 00.28hrs. After landing at Full Sutton at 02.30hrs the crew did not wait for a ground crew marshall to guide them back to a dispersal, instead one of the crew appears to have jumped down and guided the pilot around the perimeter track with torch signals. The man on the ground attempted to wave the torch to warn the pilot that Halifax NA531 was parked and empty in a dispersal but the pilot took this signal as an instruction to turn, resulting in a collision.
