Halifax MZ714 damaged in the air, returned to Tholthorpe airfield.

On the night of 10th / 11th August 1944 the crew of this 425 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at La Pallice. The crew took off from Tholthorpe airfield 19.36hrs. They released their bomb load onto target markers from 9,500 feet at 23.03hrs having deliberately overshot the target markers on instruction from the master bomber. During the course of the night the aeroplane received minor flak damage to the port rudder and fin but despite the damage the crew returned to Tholthorpe and landed at 02.11hrs.
