Halifax MZ704 damaged in the air, landed at Full Sutton airfield.

The Full Sutton station orb states that on 25th August 1944 this aircraft sustained a Cat.Ac damage assessment following flak damage after landing on return from an operational flight. Halifax MZ704 was not flown on operations on 25th August 1944 but it was on the afternoon of 24th August 1944 on Ops to Brest. While the squadron records do not list any damage to this aircraft on this date this webpage has been created in advance of locating additional information. Several other 77 Squadron aircraft were damaged by flak on this date and are listed as such in the squadron record. MZ704 took off from Full Sutton at 10.05hrs and was used to fly an operational flight to bomb shipping at Brest. It carried a modified under-turret and an extra air gunner to occupy this. The crew released their bomb load onto the target on their second run at 13.01hrs from 14,600 feet and landed at Full Sutton at 15.05hrs.
