Halifax MZ689 damaged in the air, landed at Full Sutton airfield.

During the afternoon of 25th October 1944 the crew of this 77 Squadron aircraft were detailed to fly an operational flight to bomb Essen and they took off from Full Sutton airfield at 13.05hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target at 15.42hrs from 19,600 feet and while over the target area the aircraft was struck and damaged by flak in the nose. Despite the damage the crew returned to Full Sutton and landed at 18.00hrs. The port spar was later found damaged.
